Spin Check: How to detect HDD spin-up

To detect HDD spin-up, place your hand & ear (or a stethoscope) on the HDD before you plug it in. Then while touching & listening to the drive, plug it in...feel...listen...and learn. (for 2 secs. only, at the risk of loosing data!)
