HDD was Bumped while Running

Diagnosis: If the disk was running when this happened, read/write head misalignment can occur due to physical shock. Some irretrievable data loss can occur due to the possibility of the heads making phystcal contact with the spinning disks.

Heads should never come into contact with the disk. The heads are seperated from the disk by an airflow that is created as the disk spins by. If they touch while the disk is spinning, heads can bend and break off. If data is present, some of it may be lost by the damage the head created when it hit the disk.

There is no reason for you to keep running this drive! You could cause more data loss!

Parts Replacement:
If the parts replacement is successful and there are no other issues, we will begin the data recovery procedure. The data recovery procedure willl take 1 to 4 days depending the amount of data to recover and how much damage occured. Severly damaged data can take up to a week to recover.

When the drive is not running, heads are parked, out-of-the-way and protected from medium-level physical shocks.
